COMMON INQUIRIES

I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I have received over my career. It’s normal and encouraged for patients to ask many questions when choosing to work with a licensed Psychotherapist. Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

DO I HAVE TO BE AN ARTIST TO DO ART THERAPY?

Nope! Anyone can benefit from participating in Art Therapy. Your only requirement as a client is your willingness to remain open and receptive!

WHAT IS YOUR FEE STRUCTURE?

60 minute Art Therapy Counseling sessions are set at  $150.  60 minute Creative Consultation sessions are set at $90. I am flexible and work with folks based on their unique financial needs and together we assess what amount is feasible and fair without adding additional stress. Above all, therapy is an investment in your own healing and personal growth. Attending sessions may require you to look closer at how you'd like to spend your money, what is most important to you and your overall well being. Self care is a worthwhile investment.

HOW DOES ART THERAPY WORK?

Broadly, Art Therapy aids in the therapeutic process by adding a creative component to further explore any challenge or identified problem presenting itself to you. To synthesize things, art making within the session becomes a useful and tangible recording or artifact from our session. Outside the session, you decide whether you would like to continue to engage in those feelings through continuing to work through the art process. Art therapy is highly adaptive and individualized and always a collaborative process!

IN PERSON AND VIRTUAL SESSIONS.

My practice is both virtual and in person. Virtual art therapy allows you to carve out your own space in your home, office, garage, patio or wherever you feel most at peace. Setting the space for yourself, allows for increased agency and choice. Art is an important relationship, it deserves to take up valuable space in your life. In the virtual art therapy relationship, you also have full control of media and and tools. As the art therapist, I may suggest fitting media based on your reason for coming to therapy or goals but ultimately you are following your intuition to guide you toward what feels good in your body and in your creative process.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ANY ART SUPPLIES?

That's okay! We'll utilize creative problem solving skills! I find most folks have at least a notepad (lined or otherwise), pens and/or markers. We adapt and work within your means. If you choose you are welcome to collect your own art supplies as well.

WHY DON'T YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. You can sign up using this link: https://mentaya.com/inviteclient/rBUqyFPCyXw1A9MZn04u Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.
