COMMON INQUIRIES

It’s normal and encouraged for clients to ask questions when choosing to work with a credentialed Art Therapist/Licensed Professional Counselor. Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

DO I HAVE TO BE AN ARTIST TO DO ART THERAPY?

Nope! Anyone can benefit from participating in Art Therapy. Your only requirement as a client is your willingness to remain open and receptive!

WHAT IS YOUR FEE STRUCTURE?

60 minute Art Therapy Counseling sessions are set at  $150.  60 minute Creative Consultation sessions are set at $90. I am flexible and work with folks based on their unique financial needs and together we assess what amount is feasible and fair without adding additional stress. Above all, therapy is an investment in your own healing and personal growth. Attending sessions may require you to look closer at how you'd like to spend your money, what is most important to you and your overall well being. Self care is a worthwhile investment.

HOW DOES ART THERAPY WORK?

Broadly, Art Therapy aids in the therapeutic process by adding a creative component to further explore any challenge or identified problem presenting itself to you. To synthesize things, art making within the session becomes a useful and tangible recording or artifact from our session. Outside the session, you decide whether you would like to continue to engage in those feelings through continuing to work through the art process. Art Therapy is highly adaptive and individualized and always a collaborative process!

CHOOSING WHICH FORMAT OF ART THERAPY WORKS BEST FOR YOU.

In person sessions will take place in my office where you'll have a myriad of materials and media to choose from. Bright natural light permeates the space. You'll  have the option to choose to sit at a table, where you and I will be side by side or across from one another in a traditional psychotherapy orientation. Being in the room together allows for an exchange of energy, not just between you and I but also between you, the materials and the art product that's being created in the shared space. In person Art Therapy is my preference.

Virtual Art Therapy allows you the opportunity to prioritize art-making in a confidential space of your choice, whether that's a space in your spare room, home office, garage, patio or wherever you feel most at peace. Art is an important relationship, it deserves to take up valuable space in your life.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ANY ART SUPPLIES?

If you're attending Art Therapy in person, all the materials and media are provided to you in the space. Of course, I welcome you to bring in preferred media or tools if you'd like. If you are attending virtually, we'll utilize what is available to you! I find most folks have at least a notepad (lined or otherwise), pens and/or markers. We adapt and work within your means. If you choose you are welcome to collect your own art supplies as well.

DOES THE THERAPIST MAKE ART TOO?

I will always show up as a facilitator and a guide, but dependent on many factors, there are a variety of ways I am with you while you are making. I can be a silent observer, an active listener, a collaborator, or a mirror. We will typically approach this on our first session and keep an open dialogue as the relationship develops.
